Learning how to manage your time is one of the main things that you will have to master in order to
become a successful home based business owner. Most new marketers make the mistake of not
taking their business as serious as their jobs. Of course your job that is making you your primary
income right now has to remain a priority but your home business has to take second place on
your list of duties. Let's face it, if you are working 10 hours at your job and only putting in half an
hour per day into your business, you will not get anywhere.
Here are 10 Tips for Time Management in your Home Based Business:
1. Make a Schedule:
Make a daily schedule that includes everything that you need to do in your life. Make a list of
things that you have to do starting when you wake up to when you go to sleep at night. Make sure
that you set aside regular time every day (at least 2 to 3 hours for your business and even more
time on the weekend).
2. Prioritize:
Make a list of things that you need to do on a daily basis such as:
- Your Present Job
- Commuting
- Family obligations
- Exercise and Well Being activities
- House hold duties ETC.
- Home Business Building time (at least 2 to 3 hours per day).
3. Shedding Unnecessary Activities (Sacrifice):
Let's face it, there are only 24 hours in a day and only so much that we can do with our time. Our
time is spent doing the things that we are obligated to do and in our spare time we do the things
that bring us joy. The success of your home based business is greatly impacted with the amount
of time that you spend in actual business building. You will have to find time to spend at least 2 to
3 hours per day directly to apply to your business. A successful home based business can really
change your life by giving you time and financial freedom. Business building will have to become
mandatory 'daily' if you are serious. Cut off all other activities that are unimportant in order to fit in
the most important 'daily' duties. Many people fail in this industry because they do not want to shed
'fun to do' activities. Examples of activities that you can lose are:
a) TV Time (most people spend an average of 3 hours per day watching TV
b) Social Media 'Distractions' (most Face Book users spend an average of 1 hour per day)
c) Watching the news (most people spend an average of 1 hour per day watching 'doom and
gloom' reports from the media)
d) Happy hour at the local bar (some people spend up to 2 hours daily hanging out a the local bar
daily)
e) Any other activities that aren't necessary and don't move you closer towards your goals.
4. Make it Consistent:
Do your home business building at the same time each day (if possible) so that it becomes a
'regular' activity that you get used to doing. Once you keep doing it every day it becomes a good
'habit' and you will start getting results.
5. Income Producing Activities:
Spend your home business building time on things that will actually move you forward towards your
financial goals. Don't spend most of your time reading emails. Instead, spend your time learning
income producing activities like driving targeted traffic to your site, lead generation and
prospecting, then apply what you have learned.
6. Distractions:
Find a place such as a spare bed room or basement where you can set up a home office. It is very
important that you have a door that you can divide yourself away from the rest of the world. Tell
your children, other family members and friends not to disturb you while you are spending time
working on your business unless something is very important. Turn off your cell phone
and online chat. Turn off the radio or TV. Turn off anything that will take your focus off your
business. Stop reading and answering personal emails during this time.
7. Plan your day the night before:
Every night make your list of things that you will have to do the next day that will move you one
step forward towards your financial goals. Make your list and stick to it.
8. Take Breaks:
Some people end up going the opposite way and spend too much time on their computers.
Remember to take breaks regularly. Go for a walk in the park. Going out into nature will actually
raise your energy level and make you more productive.
9. Spend time Appreciating:
When you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed, thank God for everything that you
already have in life and for the things that are on the way. The more things that you are grateful
for, the more they will keep flowing into your life.
10. Quiet Time:
This is very important. Spend time each day to quiet your mind. In this time frame, do not focus on
anything. Do not think about your home based business, your family or your job. Just be. The
more you start becoming 'quiet' (daily), the calmer you become. When your mind becomes 'still'
your whole life will just flow more easily.
